DRAGONFLY OF
ENGINEERING. Edgardo Anselmo Vaz is a jeweler with many years of
work. His
father was owner of the mint
Tammaro. For that reason, from boy, Vaz is very related with the
production of stamps of
steel. From
this, to become a jeweler, there was
only a step, because according to what the artist says: “the coinage
and the jewellery are very related.” On the other hand, the
difficulties of working in steel made him easier the work in gold and
silver.
At the
moment Vaz has two factorys, in those that he works with his family. In
one of them he carries out the heavy work of industrial metallurgy,
creating mechanical parts, among other things. There, he also makes
the alloys and foundries of metals. In the second factory
Vaz works making the jeweller's designs, settings, and carving the stones.
The tools that he uses (burin, chisel, and
others) are created by himself and they are the same ones
that they were used in the Middle Age. This artisan exported rings
and other pieces to Germany and United States.
The
dragonfly,
that insect of very nervous flight, is one of
the pieces that stands out of his collection and it is also one of
the more requested objects from the Europeans.
The
dragonfly is a small jewel that has three possible uses.
You can use
as a pin, as a trinket or as an ornamental figure. The mother-of-pearl wings
are movable and the whole figure is made in a very exquisite way.
